Conor Matthew Mccreedy

Conor Matthew Mccreedy was born on February 11th, 1987 in Johannesburg, South Africa.  He is an internationally known artist, a serial entrepreneur, and currently lives in New York City, Paris, and South Africa.  He was educated in a college in South Africa called Hilton.  He was taught under the influence of a professor named Brent Dodd who was a South African landscape and wildlife artist.  Mccreedy received his first award in the University of Natal Arts Competition and was also awarded the Kenneth Beghin Memorial prize for Art.  His greatest accomplishment was being the youngest person to have a solo exhibition at the National Arts Club in New York City.  Mccreedy later attended a college in North Carolina with a golf scholarship of all things.  Mccreedy later came to the conclusion of what he wanted to do with his life, so he dropped out of the university to pursue and independent art career.
Mccreedy believes that true happiness comes from giving back to his hometown and has become a well-known, well-respected figure within South Africa.  Mccreedy is known to be a supporter of three major charities, two of which are founded in South Africa.  Mccreedy is heavily known amongst twitter in South Africa and the rest of the world; he is the highest followed public figure in Southern Africa, the highest followed contemporary artist in the world, and is one of the highest followed users in South Africa as a whole.  Clearly, Mccreedy is an inspiration to the world, especially via twitter, and is loved by many people.
What got Mccreedy commercial success was when Time Warner, one of the largest media companies in the world, commissioned for him for his blue style of artwork titled “Mccreedy blue style”.  The image below is one of Mccreedy’s paintings called “Falling Angel” and might be his most popular piece of art.  It showcases Mccreedy’s style of bright blues and dark indigos in his paintings that can be found throughout his entire collection.
I myself find this artistic technique rather interesting in the sense of blue being his only color of expression.  Mccreedy has always been described as a energetic, philosophical man surrounded by inspiration and insight, so why of all the colors choose a color representing sadness, depression, and negativity?  Questionable or not, I still personally enjoy the look that his paintings bring to the table.  Mccreedy’s collection of blue paintings are few and short, each bringing their own message with their own array of various blues.
I feel as if Mccreedy has got many different intuitive ideas stored for the future of his art career.  His blue style of art is distinctive and identifiable as well as emotionally effective from my own eyes.  Mccreedy’s got the movie star looks and celebrity fame already; from here on out he can only expand on his career in art with more paintings down the line.  Mccreedy is a strong influence on everybody who enjoys art, who creates art, and to the people of South Africa that have shaped the person he has become today.

  1. I enjoyed hearing all about Mccreedy and his large number of followers. It is so cool to see such a unknown yet such a popular influence in South African culture, especially if what that person does is related to arts because art is known all over the world to unite people in thought and other things. It is really interesting seeing this artist only using blue. I wonder why that is, or maybe someone knows would be the question that comes to mind. You did a wonderful job detailing what this artist has done in his lifetime and a wonderful job explaining just how many people he has influenced but I can't really tell how this character is related to the apartheid issue. Thats the only fault I found besides that wonderful article and wonderful coverage of such a great, influential artist.
